Sabaton announces new album “Legends” A historic power metal journey set for October 17 release

Swedish warlords Sabaton have officially unveiled their 11th studio album, Legends, due out on October 17, 2025, via Nuclear Blast. This time, the band turns its heavy artillery from the 20th-century battlefields to the myth-soaked past, dedicating each of the 11 tracks to a different legendary figure from ancient and medieval history. The result is an epic, globe-spanning concept record that promises to be as cinematic as it is crushing.

While Sabaton’s previous works (The Great War, The War to End All Wars) focused on 20th-century conflict, Legends takes a daring step backward through time. From Joan of Arc to Napoleon, Genghis Khan, Miyamoto Musashi, and even Hannibal Barca, this record resurrects legendary warriors and rulers whose impact still echoes across continents and centuries.

In their own words:

“We’ve told the stories of modern-day heroes. Now it’s time to tell the tales of those who came before—legends who shaped the world long before tanks and trenches.”

Confirmed tracks and first singles

The band has already released four singles:

  • “Templars” – An anthemic power metal tribute to the Knights Templar

  • “Hordes of Khan” – A war chant honoring Genghis Khan’s unstoppable conquest

  • “The Duelist” – A speed-driven narrative inspired by samurai master Miyamoto Musashi

  • “Lightning at the Gates” – A thunderous retelling of Hannibal crossing the Alps with elephants

The full 11-track lineup was recently revealed:

  1. Templars

  2. Hordes of Khan

  3. A Tiger Among Dragons

  4. Crossing the Rubicon

  5. I, Emperor

  6. Maid of Steel

  7. Impaler

Collector’s dream: exclusive physical editions

In true Sabaton fashion, Legends will arrive in a wide range of collector’s editions:

  • 11 unique vinyls, each themed after one of the legendary figures featured in the album, including full art sleeves and historical inserts

  • CD digibook and earbook editions with bonus content

  • Cassette box sets, colored vinyl, and a Storyteller Edition narrated by the band

Each format is designed to visually and sonically immerse the listener in history’s blood-soaked legends.

Creative collaboration and evolution

Unlike past records, Legends marks the first time all current members of Sabaton contributed to the songwriting process. The result is a more layered and unified sound that still delivers the band’s signature anthemic choruses, galloping riffs, and larger-than-life themes—but with deeper nuance and historical scope.

According to bassist and founding member Pär Sundström:

“This album represents a new chapter, not just thematically, but musically. We’ve all brought our voices to the table. It’s a record made by the entire band, for the entire world.”
