IMPERIAL DOMAIN Returns with Vengeful New Single “Retribution”
Swedish melodic death metal veterans Imperial Domain have unleashed a ferocious new single, “Retribution,” the first glimpse into their upcoming full-length Portentum, due out November 14, 2025 via Wormholedeath Records.
Emerging from the heart of Sweden’s death metal tradition, Imperial Domain deliver a sound that’s both nostalgic and razor-sharp. Retribution channels humiliation and betrayal into pure vengeance, a storm of melodic riffing, percussive precision, and growls that strike with surgical intent. The track’s production maintains the band’s hallmark clarity, allowing every rhythmic nuance and harmonic layer to breathe without sacrificing aggression.
A Legacy Forged in Shadows
Originally founded in the mid-90s, Imperial Domain gained early recognition with The Final Chapter (1995) and In the Ashes of the Fallen (1998 – Pulverised Records), both cornerstones of Sweden’s melodic death metal rise. After the tragic passing of original vocalist Tobias Heideman in 2014, the band resurfaced with The Deluge (2016), signaling a triumphant rebirth.
Now, Portentum appears poised to close one chapter and open another merging the icy melodies and stoic precision of the classic Swedish sound with a renewed sense of fire and spiritual heaviness.
The Current Line-Up

Aesthetic and Concept
The band continues to embrace the visual identity that defined the Scandinavian death metal scene of the 90s: stark contrasts, apocalyptic iconography, and clean Gothic typography. The Portentum artwork reinforces that legacy — cold yet majestic, evoking a sense of divine judgment and cosmic vengeance.
For long-time followers of melodic death metal, Retribution feels like a reminder that evolution doesn’t require abandoning tradition. For newcomers, it’s an unflinching introduction to a band that never lost sight of its roots.
