Belphegor unleash “Sanctus Diaboli Confidimus” and sign with Reigning Phoenix Music
Austrian blackened death metal veterans Belphegor have returned with a new infernal hymn, Sanctus Diaboli Confidimus, released on August 6, 2025. The single marks the band’s first offering under their newly inked deal with Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM), a reunion with industry ally Gerardo Martinez nearly two decades after their first collaboration.
A Pact Renewed
For founder, guitarist, and vocalist Helmuth Lehner, the partnership with RPM carries both history and intent.
“We’ve known Gerardo since 2006, when he helped bring Belphegor to North America,” says Helmuth. “It’s great to work together again and to bring our chaos to the next level.”
Martinez, in turn, hails Belphegor as “one of the best proponents of black death metal art”, promising years of unrelenting releases under the RPM banner.
The Song and Its Creed
Sanctus Diaboli Confidimus—Latin for In the Holy Devil We Trust—is, in Helmuth’s words,
“A symbiosis of diabolical black death metal. A glorification of the Devil. A hypnotic anthem of passion, fire, and iron discipline. It stands for the absolute freedom to walk your own path, to reign within your own realm.”
This declaration is sonically manifested through razor-edged riffs, unholy tremolo work, and a ritualistic pulse that blurs the lines between violence and trance.
The Art of Blasphemy
The single’s artwork, created by Dhomth, is a dark ceremonial tableau: a horned figure draped in crimson, carrying a white goat, emerging from a graveyard under smoke-choked skies. The imagery mirrors the track’s blend of menace and mysticism, a visual altar to the band’s blackened creed.
Forged in Fire and Iron Discipline
The track was recorded with Helmuth handling guitars, vocals, and bass, joined by Wolf on guitars and James S. on drums.
Guitars, vocals, and bass were tracked at Studio Mischmaschine Oberalm in Austria.
Drums were captured at Michael Zech’s Church Of Sound Studio in Munich, Germany.
Mixing and mastering duties were executed by Tue Madsen at Antfarm Studio, delivering a sonic strike that is as cold as it is corrosive.
Toward the Next Chapter
Sanctus Diaboli Confidimus serves as the opening invocation for Belphegor’s yet-untitled 13th studio album, slated for release in 2026 via RPM. If this single is any indication, the coming full-length promises to be one of the most unrelenting entries in their discography.
