32 Years Later, Coroner Strikes Back With Their Most Brutal Album Yet
Swiss technical thrash metal legends Coroner are set to make a monumental return with their first full-length album in 32 years. Titled Dissonance Theory, the album is scheduled for release on October 17, 2025, via Century Media Records. This marks the band’s first studio work since 1993’s Grin and introduces drummer Diego Rappachietti into the lineup, bringing a renewed energy and precision while honoring the technical mastery that has defined Coroner’s legacy.
Dissonance Theory features ten meticulously crafted tracks spanning approximately 47 minutes, each showcasing the band’s signature combination of intricate guitar riffs, complex rhythms, and thought-provoking lyrical themes. The tracklist is as follows:
Oxymoron
Consequence
Sacrificial Lamb
Crisium Bound
Symmetry
The Law
Transparent Eye
Trinity
Renewal
Prolonging
The album was recorded at New Sound Studios in Switzerland, with guitarist Tommy Vetterli overseeing production. Mixing and mastering were handled by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden, renowned for his work with Opeth, Kreator, and Amon Amarth, ensuring a polished yet aggressive sound that balances technical precision with raw energy.
To build anticipation, Coroner released two singles ahead of the album. Renewal, their first new song in over three decades, debuted on August 15, 2025, accompanied by a striking music video directed by Dariusz Szermanowicz. This was followed by Symmetry on September 17, a track that continues to demonstrate the band’s intricate compositional approach and sophisticated thrash dynamics.
The current lineup features Tommy Vetterli on guitars, Ron Broder on bass and vocals, and Diego Rappachietti on drums. Rappachietti, known for his work with 69 Chambers, brings a new layer of precision and drive, reinvigorating the band’s technical approach while respecting its legacy. The album’s cover artwork, designed by Stefan Thanneur, reflects the cerebral and chaotic essence of the music, visually capturing the intricate and structured style that fans expect from Coroner.
Dissonance Theory will be available in multiple formats, including a standard CD, a limited 2CD mediabook featuring the classic “Death Cult” 4-track demo from 1986, a black vinyl LP, and a special deep blood red LP for collectors. Pre-orders are already open, making it accessible to both longtime fans and newcomers eager to experience Coroner’s renewed technical thrash metal vision.
With Dissonance Theory, Coroner not only bridges more than three decades of musical history but also delivers a meticulously crafted album that reinforces their status as one of thrash metal’s most precise and cerebral acts. It stands as both a historic return and a contemporary statement, promising to engage a new generation of listeners while satisfying those who have followed the band since their inception.
