The artist of the week: Soul Disease (Colombia)

SOUL DISEASE – Colombian Blackened Tech-Death

Soul Disease is a Blackened Tech-Death metal band founded in Bogotá in 2018. The group brings together members from several extreme metal bands in the Bogotá scene, including current and former musicians from Cancerbero, Awaken, Nonsense Premonition, and Ripping Flesh. Their goal: to forge heavy music that fuses technical guitar and bass riffs, rapid-fire drumming, and guttural growls with a concept-driven aesthetic.

Lineup:
Mateo Bejarano – Guitars
Oscar Tovar – Drums
Alejandro González – Vocals
Sebastián Duarte – Guitars
Jean Jimenez – Bass

The Rise of Soul Disease

In Bogotá’s metal scene, death metal demands more than just raw power—it requires precision, vision, and guts. Soul Disease rises to the challenge with a bold, uncompromising take on Blackened Technical Death Metal. Their sound is a balance of complex instrumentation and immersive atmospheres, delivering a sonic experience that’s both brutal and thoughtful.

Vocalist Alejandro González brings a literary and dramatic sensibility to his performance, elevating the lyrical content with themes drawn from existentialism and mythology. This conceptual layer gives the music an emotional and philosophical depth that transcends traditional genre boundaries.

Since its formation, the band has released music videos, lyrics, and playthroughs for songs like Beating the End, Downfall, and Paralyzed. Through these works, Soul Disease creates vivid sonic worlds that reflect inner turmoil, societal collapse, and the haunting weight of existence.

Their musical influences encompass a diverse range of genres, notably including Technical, Post Black, and Modern Metal, drawing inspiration from a variety of prominent bands. Among these influential acts are Inferi, Obscura, Spawn of Possession, Shadow of Intent, Wrvth, Disarmonia Mundi, Lorna Shore, Within The Ruins, Soreption, First Fragment, and Cynic. This eclectic mix contributes to their unique sound and creative approach, pushing the boundaries of their musical expression.

The band is currently working on their first full-length album, titled Dreamscape, recorded at Red Spot Studio and mastered by Zack Ohren (Machine Head, Suffocation, Cattle Decapitation, All Shall Perish). The album includes two previously released singles with official videoclips, as well as two instrumental playthroughs. Several of these audiovisual pieces have received recognition at film and music festivals, underscoring the band’s dedication not only to sound but to complete artistic storytelling.

With Dreamscape, Soul Disease aims to leave a lasting mark on the Colombian metal scene—delivering not just an album, but a full conceptual and sonic journey through the darkest corridors of the mind.

Live Presence and Community

Beyond the studio, Soul Disease has proven their power on stage. Their performances—tight, emotional, and relentlessly intense—have earned them opening slots for acts like Obscura, Cradle of Filth, Carnifex, and Leprous, as well as spots at notable Colombian festivals, including the triumphant return of Internal Suffering.

Each show is more than a performance—it's a cathartic ritual that connects them with an ever-growing fanbase. Their commitment to the scene, both musically and personally, has fostered a dedicated following and solidified their reputation as one of Colombia’s most promising metal acts.

The Path Ahead

Soul Disease is not just another extreme metal band. They represent the next generation of Colombian death metal: technically masterful, artistically ambitious, and fiercely independent. With Dreamscape on the horizon and a clear vision for the future, Soul Disease stands ready to push the boundaries of what metal from Latin America can be.

Stay tuned for both the digital and physical release of “Dreamscape.”
